A day sailing in the Mediterranean, snorkeling with Turtles & Exploring the hidden beaches of Fethiye, Turkey

Although, you know us! We can’t sit back for long, whilst down here on our “holiday” we ended up taking a night bus over to Cappadocia for a few days and jumping off a mountain! But one of our favourite things to do is to take a boat trip to the beautiful waters around the bay. What could be better than a day of adventure, fun and relaxation in such stunning surroundings? Fethiye has so much to offer!

Exploring the secluded beaches of Fethiye and relaxing in the sun

The day, of course, started off slowly, after all, we had a full day at sea or rather, in the sea! Our first stop was a beach only accessible via the water known as “Camel Beach”. Here we placed down our anchor and set land on what felt like a secret beach, hidden away from the crowds on the famous Blue Lagoon, here we had the place to ourselves.

Our boat itself only held a handful of people and so the secluded nature of this wonderfully picturesque cove was preserved for our time relaxing as the waves ebbed their way gently over the rocky beach. From here the Fethiye Bay looked simply stunning!

Stopping by “Cold Water Bay”

So on we went, calling in at several stunning bays along the way and we bobbed along in the azure swell. Now it was time to call in at “Cold Water Bay”, below the craggy cliff side only a few days earlier we had been hiking above in 40c heat! This time we would, as the name suggests, have a very different experience of this stunning cove. What an amazing way to see all Fethiye has to offer.

The warm waters of the Mediterranean that we leap from the boat into gradually gave way to the freezing natural spring bubbling out of the rocks in the far corner of the bay. We each took turns to see how close we could swim to the icy source of this freshwater as it became colder and colder before we entered into the freezing pool that gives this bay its name! We were glad to swim with haste back into the gloriously temperate waters of the sea!

Getting an amazing view of the mountainous region

Sailing out and into the bay gave us a great opportunity to get a panoramic view of the amazing mountainous region we found ourselves in. Only a couple of days earlier we had been flying high above the Babadag, the huge peak that dominates this bay, and floating above the stunning waters in which we now found ourselves.

From this new vantage point, it was a way to take in this stunning craggy and rugged scenery which contrasted sharply with the deep blue of the ocean. From here we could get a much closer look at the unique shape of the islands and peninsulas that create this unique coastline.

Calling by the caves and swimming with Turtles!

One of the absolute highlights of the day has to be donning the snorkelling masks and swimming in the aquarium bay. So-called because of the abundance of natural sea life in this protected cove.

Initially, we were a little disappointed by the lack of wildlife here, it seemed that the first swimmers had disturbed the shoals of fish that we had seen off the side of the ship and many had hidden in the depths of the water.

But out of the corner of my eye I spotted something rise out of the water. A head, coming up for air, the most beautiful turtle I had ever seen. We immediately dove below the waves to get a glimpse of this elegant creature swimming gracefully through the turquoise sea. What an experience!

The huge carved-out cliff that rises above the swell below created a wild wave pool in which we got churned up. Here the peaceful surroundings changed into some challenging territory, after a day of relaxing it was nice to test ourselves and jump into the raging waters!

It just goes to show you how easily the conditions in the sea can change and how important it is to be a strong swimmer, but of course, being next to the boat we knew this was just a bit of fun!

Leaping with joy on the most wonderful of days!

What a beautiful day, from relaxing in the sun on the beds at the front of the boat to leaping off the top deck and into the warm turquoise waters surroundings us, swimming with turtles and tropical fish, visiting amazing deserted beaches and adventuring into wild caves.
